Christian Bourgeois

Dr. Christian Bourgeois studied chemistry and business administration at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster. After completing his studies with a diploma thesis in the field of analytical chemistry, he moved to the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the WWU. There, as part of his doctorate, he worked on painkillers which, in contrast to morphine, should have fewer side effects. Following his doctorate in 2007, he began training in the field of intellectual property law. After working in a law firm in Düsseldorf and at the Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf, he trained at the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Patent Court in Munich. After being admitted as a patent attorney, he started working in his own law firm in 2010. He has been working with the karo IP team ever since. Since 2012, the year he was admitted as a European Patent Attorney, he has been cooperating with the karo IP team and advises his clients in national and international patent prosecution proceedings, mainly in the fields of chemistry and pharmacy.

Main focus

Patent law, trade mark law and designs law at German and European level. This includes advising clients in obtaining and implementing industrial property rights as well as preparing patent strategies and drawing up expert reports on the freedom to operate (FTO) and infringements.

Technical focus

Inorganic, analytical, organic and physical chemistry, food chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry (drugs), life sciences, coatings and dyes, explosive agents and explosives-based procedures.
