Dr. Dirk Müssig

Dr. Dirk Müssig studied physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt and completed his doctorate in medical physics in the field of tumor therapy with heavy ions at the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research.

After completing his doctorate, Dr. Müssig worked as a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on the statistical evaluation of drug studies and the market access of drugs. In 2014, he began his training as a patent attorney at a Düsseldorf patent law firm and continued his training as a patent attorney trainee at a national patent and law firm from 2016. During his training, he completed training periods at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court and gained experience in the Intellectual Property Litigation Senate under the presiding judges Dr. Kühnen and Voß.

After working as a patent attorney in his training firm for the last 5 years, Dr. Müssig joined our firm in 2025.

As a professional representative, Dirk is authorized to represent parties in German and European patent litigation proceedings, including:

  • Unified Patent Court (UPC)
  • European Patent Office (EPO)
  • European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)
  • Deutsches Patent- und Markenamt (DPMA)
  • Bundespatentgericht (BPatG)
  • Bundesgerichtshof (nur Patentnichtigkeit)

Focus

Representing clients in patent grant and opposition proceedings, advising German and international clients in all areas of intellectual property law, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, developing IP strategies, assisting in opposition and nullity proceedings as well as providing expert opinions on validity and infringement of technical property rights.

Physics, telecommunications and mobile communications, connected vehicles, optical and medical technology, mechanical engineering, energy technology, software, artificial intelligence, cryptography, Internet of Things (IoT), lasers and optics.
