Kai Daniel Klein

Kai Klein studied Mechanical Engineering at Ruhr University Bochum, focusing on Applied Mechanics as well as Design and Automation Engineering. His master’s thesis in the field of plasticity under dynamic load was awarded the Multiphase Technology Award in 2014. In parallel, he obtained a second master’s degree in Sales Engineering & Product Management, also from Ruhr University Bochum. He has professional engineering experience in research & development in the fields of tools and plant engineering, gained in Germany and the United States.
After completing his training as a German Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney and gaining more than ten years of professional experience in a mid‑sized patent law firm, Kai Klein joined the karo IP team in 2026.
He is also an active member of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) and represents it on the Standing Advisory Committee before the EPO (SACEPO– WP/PDI).
Areas of Practice
Advising German and international clients in all fields of intellectual property law, in particular before the European Patent Office; drafting patent applications; prosecuting patent applications in Germany and Europe; coordinating foreign patent filings, especially in the United States and China; preparing validity and infringement opinions; preparing and conducting opposition proceedings for German and European patents as well as nullity actions; advising on the development of IP strategies. As a qualified representative, he also has experience in European patent litigation before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).
